Kiln-formed glass is the process of creating art glass by heating components of glass together using a glass kiln. The components could be powders, grains, rods, tubes, ingots or most commonly sheet glass. The forming process could be by shaping the components, casting or fusing.
Kiln glass is a process of design, applied craftsmanship and a dash of artistic flair before the heat energy is applied to the glass to transform the piece. Based on knowledge and experience, the end-result is envisioned, planned and executed before it is placed in the dark kiln where extreme heat without the touch of a human hand transforms the vision into a reality.
As sand was once magically transformed into glass, so it once again it undergoes a metamorphosis from solid to liquid to solid into art.
